2-Tone

It's hard to describe the impact the 2-Tone scene had on young males like myself across the Western world in the late 1970s. The 2-Tone scene was basically started by Jerry Dammers and his ska-punk hyrbid band The Specials in the wake of the punk implosion of 1977. For the Special's first single, Dammers worked with professional graphic designer Dave Storey and John ‘Teflon’ Sims in creating the look for the single which then developed into a look for the band and its subsequent singles/albums; then a look for the label created by Dammers (2 Tone); a look for all the other bands on the label as well as other ska bands hanging about (The Selecter, Madness, The Beat, etc.) until becoming a look taken over wholesale by the youth of the UK.
